Atlante On Track For Hobartville
Talented New Zealand colt Atlante (Fastnet Rock-Readyforcatherine, by More Than Ready) has pleased connections after finishing a close second to stakes-class sprinter Howmuchdoyouloveme in a Rosehill barrier trial (1030m) yesterday morning, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained 3YO, who claimed the Gr1 New Zealand 2,000 Guineas during the spring, was ridden by Tommy Berry in a heat which featured Honorius, Savvy Nature and Royal Descent, sitting just off Howmuchdoyouloveme and working home nicely in the straight. "He went pretty well because 1030 metres is a bit short for him and he trialled without the blinkers," Baker said. "Tommy Berry was very happy with him and he was very tractable." Atlante is likely to open his autumn campaign in the Gr2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on 1 March, with Baker hoping the Western Sydney track provides a more favourable surface than the Slow track presented last weekend. "He doesn't like a wet track this horse, so we'd have to see what the conditions were like on the day. If it was wet we'd probably wait another week," added Baker. Atlante is being aimed at the Gr1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) on 15 March with connections hoping to secure a win to boost his stallion credentials. Meanwhile, the other members of Baker's Sydney carnival string in 5-time Gr1 winner It's A Dundeel and Australian Derby contender Show The World are set to trial at Randwick next Monday. "They both galloped well on the course proper at Warwick Farm this morning [Tuesday]. We're very happy with them and they've come up well."
