Queen Elizabeth Target For Dear Demi

Tuesday, 11th February 2014

VRC Oaks winner Dear Demi (Dehere-Shirley, by Zabeel) will be aimed at the flagship event of The Championships, the $4 million Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, reports racingnetwork.com.au. Trainer Clarry Conners confirmed yesterday that the 4YO mare will resume in the Gr3 Wiggle Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm on 8 March before heading to the Gr1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on 22 March. He said she will then have one more prep race before the Queen Elizabeth (2000m) at Randwick on April 19, but has ruled out a start in the Gr1 The BMW (2400m) at Randwick on 5 April. "I could not be happier with her," said Conners. "She is a tough mare, she likes racing and she keeps coming up. She is sound; she is a racehorse - not a show pony." Conners said Dear Demi trialled nicely at Warwick Farm last week with stable-mate Satin Shoes (Flying Spur-Star Satire, by Volksraad), who has come out of retirement after failing to get in foal. "She trialled on the bit beautifully. There was a lot of personal satisfaction, she is just a lovely mare," Conners said. Satin Shoes will resume in the Gr2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on 15 March.
