QLD Hoop Awarded Earthquake Mount

Wednesday, 5th February 2014

Brisbane-based Gr1-winning jockey Damian Browne has picked up the prized ride on favourite Earthquake in Saturday's Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies (1100m) at Caulfield, reports horseracing.com.au. Browne replaces Darley's number one jockey Kerrin McEvoy who has succumbed to a knee injury sustained in a fall in New Zealand last weekend. "I've always ridden with the approach that if you can't be close to or at your best then there's no point being there so I have to get it right," said McEvoy. "It obviously needs some more time to get right so that's what we need to do." Browne has ridden seventeen metropolitan winners in Brisbane this season and was in the spotlight during last year's Melbourne Spring Carnival thanks to the deeds of the Robert Heathcote-trained Buffering. Browne was aboard the star sprinter when he scored a hat-trick of Gr1 victories in the Manikato Stakes, VRC Sprint Classic & Winterbottom Stakes.
