Groupie Doll Works Toward Swansong
Dual Eclipse Award winning mare Groupie Doll (Bowman's Band-Deputy Doll, by Silver Deputy) breezed at Gulfstream Park on Sunday morning in preparation for her final career start in this weekend's Gr3 Hurricane Bertie Stakes at the same track, reports bloodhorse.com. Gulfstream Park officials announced that prize-money for the race will be increased from US$50,000 to US$200,000 if Groupie Doll runs. "She looked great, finished up strong and galloped out good," said trainer William "Buff" Bradley, who bred the 6YO daughter of Bowman's Band in partnership with his father, Fred, and campaigned her with his father and long-time clients Carl Hurst and Brent Burns before selling her to Mandy Pope for US$3.1 million at last year's Keeneland November breeding stock sale. Pope, who was on hand to watch her prized mare, said she could hardly wait for the big day. "I'm very excited and looking forward to it. I hope it's going to be a lot of fun for us and all the fans and people here. I know she'll put on a good performance. She just needs a little luck and for things to go right." Groupie Doll will be sent to the Gainesway Farm stallion Tapit when she retires.
