US Gr1 Winner Retired

Monday, 9th December 2013

Owner Art Preston, of Preston Stables, has confirmed that triple US Gr1 winner Flat Out (Flatter-Cresta Lil, by Cresta Rider) has been retired, reports bloodhorse.com. The 7YO Florida-bred son of Flatter ends his racing career on a high, having won last week's Gr1 Cigar Mile Handicap at Aqueduct for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott. He retires with a lifetime record of 9 wins from 29 starts and US$3,645,383 in earnings. His other Gr1 victories were in the Gr1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont, which he won in 2011 and 2012. "He's one of those horses that had an excellent career with some problematic situations, but he always came back to prove himself," Preston said. "He's been the most interesting horse I've ever owned and the longest campaigner we've had as well. I'd have to rank him number one among the most exciting horses I've raced." Preston has generally avoided the breeding game, but said he plans to support Flat Out at stud. "I'm going to do that for sure; I'm making a plan to breed some mares to him and it should be a lot of fun," he said.
