Arqana Breeding Stock Day-1: Average Up 25%
On the opening day of the Arqana Breeding Stock Sale at Deauville, 158 mares, fillies and foals (not including private sales) were sold for a total of €18,202,500, a figure 31 per cent higher than the corresponding session in 2012. The average was €115,206, an increase of nearly 25 per cent from 2012, while the median was €49,000, up 16.66 per cent from last year. Three-year-old filly Darysina fetched the highest price of the day, knocked down to English bloodstock agent Johnny McKeever for €800,000. Consigned by the Aga Khan Studs, Darysina is by leading US stallion Smart Strike from the dual Gr1 winner Daryaba (Night Shift), dam of Gr1 Hong Kong Vase winner Daryakana, Gr2 Prix du Conseil de Paris winner Daramsar & stakes placed duo Daryamar and Daraybi. Earlier in the day, Australian agent Damon Gabbedy (Belmont Bloodstock Agency) purchased stakes-winning Monsun mare Monblue for €400.000. Monblue, out of the German stakes winner Salonblue (Bluebird), is a half brother to the promising Kris Lees-trained import Salon Soldier, winner of the Listed Visit Victoria Plate at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.
