Myriad Options For Top NZ Colt

Friday, 6th December 2013

The unbeaten home record of exciting kiwi colt El Roca (Fastnet Rock-Rubimill, by Rubiton) is unlikely to be challenged before he heads back across the Tasman, reports NZ Racing Desk. The 3YO son of Fastnet Rock is making good progress for Cambridge trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, who have a plethora of options to choose from in Australia next year. "I can't see him running in New Zealand first; there isn't a three-year-old race over 1200 metres in the north in January for him and I don't want to have to put him on a float for nine hours to Wellington," Busuttin said. "We sat down the other night and had a good look at Melbourne and Sydney with races like the Australian Guineas and the Randwick Guineas and it will depend on how quickly he comes up." Busuttin added that should El Roca win either of those 3YO features then he could line up in the Gr1 George Ryder Stakes or Doncaster Handicap, saying "three-year-olds have a good record in those races."
