UK Trainer Gets 5-Year Ban For Steroids

Thursday, 5th December 2013

Leading UK trainer Gerard Butler has been hit with a five year ban from the British Horseracing Authority's disciplinary panel, reports bloodstock.racingpost.com. Butler admitted to the seven charges laid against him for "the use of the prohibited anabolic steroid stanozolol". Butler's case follows that of former Godolphin trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni who was banned for eight years in April this year, also for steroid offences. Butler was reportedly visibly distraught following the hearing, saying, "I would like to spend the day composing myself and considering a response." He is expected to issue a statement later today.
