Maxios To Stand In Germany

Wednesday, 4th December 2013

Germany may no longer have its late, legendary sire Monsun but the country's breeders and owners have joined forces to acquire one of his best-performed sons in Maxios (Monsun-Moonlight's Box, by Nureyev) for stud duty next year, reports bloodstock.racingpost.com. Maxios, who was trained by Jonathan Pease for his owner-breeders the Niarchos family to win the Prix d'Ispahan and Prix du Moulin this year, will begin his stallion career at Gestut Fahrhof at a fee of €10,000. Maxios hails from one of the best Niarchos families, as a half-brother to Arc hero Bago out of a half-sister to Prix Marcel Boussac winner Denebola from the family of top-class sire Machiavellian. The Niarchos family will send ten mares to Maxios, including Gr1 Prix de l'Abbaye winner Gilt Edge Girl, whom they purchased from the Paulyn dispersal at Goffs last month. "Maxios has a sensational aura and great charisma. He also has a great eye, just like his sire Monsun and grandsire Konigsstuhl," Fahrhof owner Andreas Jacobs said. "Now the greatest domestic sire line in combination with the dam line of Northern Dancer, Danehill and Machiavellian has come to Germany - at the last moment in order to fill the void left by his sire Monsun." The progeny of Monsun, who died in September, have been in dominant form this year supplying Gr1 Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente, as well as Estimate, Novellist and Silasol.
