Oakleigh Plate Target For Better Than Ready

Tuesday, 26th November 2013

Queensland trainer Kelly Schweida will aim talented sprinter Better Than Ready (More Than Ready-Sally's World, by Agnes World) at the Gr1 Oakleigh Plate next autumn, reports horseracing.com.au. The 4YO entire was an impressive winner of Saturday's Listed Keith Noud Handicap at Eagle Farm and Schweida is now looking forward to giving him his chance at the elite level. He says Better Than Ready will have a brief spell before he brings him back for the autumn racing carnival. "He's going to the paddock today [Monday]," Schweida said. "He'll probably run in the Rubiton (Stakes) a fortnight before the Oakleigh Plate. If he gets weighted out…or he draws bad, then I think the Lightning (Stakes) is a week later. But the Oakleigh Plate would be one of his main goals." The trainer is hoping that Better Than Ready will relish the Melbourne way of going in what will be his first attempt. "You're never 100 percent sure," he said. "He's only been to Melbourne once for the Newmarket. Caulfield can be pretty tricky. You really don't know until you try them." Better Than Ready has now won 8 of his 15 starts, including the Listed Brian Crowley Stakes, Listed BRC Falvelon Handicap & Listed BRC Mick Dittman Plate, for earnings of $477,000.
