Waller: Marmelo Ideal Oaks Filly
Sydney trainer Chris Waller is predicting a bright future for 3YO filly Marmelo (Duke of Marmalade-Apocrypha, by Octagonal), impressive winner of the Flemington Style Plate (1700m) at Flemington yesterday, reports racingnetwork.com.au. Waller believes the daughter of 6-time Gr1-winning Coolmore stallion Duke Of Marmalade can develop into a serious racehorse in the autumn, and says a race like the Australian Oaks at Randwick would suit her perfectly. "She is an Oaks type filly. She's only had three starts for two good wins at Randwick and Flemington," Waller said. "She has come a long way in a very short time. It shows she has a bit of scope. She is just starting to develop into a very good horse." Marmelo showed she is a quality staying filly in the making when sustaining a strong run from last on the turn to score unextended by 1-length over fellow fillies Savannah Moon (Savabeel) & Brewing (Purrealist). Marmelo is out of the twice-raced Octagonal mare Apocrypha whose dam, Tributes, won the 1999 VRC Oaks & was also runner-up in the 2000 Australian Oaks behind Coco Cobanna.
