Leading Kiwi Mare Sold To US

Tuesday, 23rd April 2013

New Zealand Derby heroine Habibi (Ekraar-Danny Holiday, by Danasinga) has been sold and will do her future racing in the US where she will be set for the Breeders' Cup by Animal Kingdom's trainer Graham Motion. The star 3YO filly's sale has been confirmed by bloodstock agent Phill Cataldo, who brokered the deal in association with American agent Denny Boltinghouse, acting on behalf of major US owner George Strawbridge whose previous purchases from the Southern Hemisphere include crack Kiwi filly Black Mamba. "I've been dealing with Denny for quite a few years and he had a client who was looking for a top filly and she was the one," commented Cataldo. "I've been taken by Habibi for quite a long time and obviously not many fillies beat the colts in the Derby and that was really appealing to the new owner." Breeders Peter and Heather Crofskey have retained a minority share for the rest of the Ekraar three-year-old's racing career. Habibi was prepared by New Zealand's Dean and Donna Logan to win six of her seven New Zealand starts and ran third for the Ruakaka trainers in the Gr1 Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill before finishing fourth in last Saturday's Gr1 Australian Oaks at Randwick.
