Monday, 16th July 2012

Recently-deceased dual-Derby winning stallion & former shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a UK black-type success (& 101st individual stakes-winner world-wide) when Irish-bred 5YO gelding Mount Athos (Montjeu-Ionian Sea, by Slip Anchor) scored a 4-lengths victory in the £33,000 (A$50,000) Listed Silver Cup (14 furlongs) at York. Mount Athos (ridden by kieren Fallon for trainer Luca Cumani) defeated Irish-bred 4YO entire High Jinx (High Chaparral-Leonara, by Surumu) & German-bred 4YO gelding Lyric Street (Hurricane Run-Elle Danzig, by Roi Danzig). Mount Athos was a 190,000 guineas (A$295,000) purchase at the 2010 UK Tattersalls Horses-In-Training Sale. Overall he now has 6 wins & a placing from 19 starts for £115,080 (A$173,000) earnings.
