Kentucky Yearlings: US$375k Malibu Moon Colt

Thursday, 12th July 2012

The North American yearling sales season kicked-off with trainer Ken McPeek (as agent for Montana-based Magic City Thoroughbreds) paying top price of US$375,000 for a colt by Malibu Moon (out of winning & stakes-placed 11-year-old Wild Again mare Uncontrollable) at the 1-day Fasig-Tipton July Select Yearling Sale in Kentucky. The colt was consigned by CandyLand as agent & his dam Uncontrollable's 3 foals of racing age are all winners (2 of them are also stakes-placed). McPek commented: "The price was more than we expected. It's typical - a good one's hard to buy & an average one is easy to buy. This colt really looked the part. He is typical of the type I like & had all the right parts in the right places. He ought to be a nice 2-turn horse & hopefully, a year from now, we'll be getting him geared up for a campaign."
