UK Handicapper Moves Frankel Up To Record 138

Wednesday, 23rd May 2012

British Horesracing Authority handicapper Dominic Gardiner-Hill confirmed Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farm home-bred unbeaten 4YO entire Frankel (Galileo-Kind, by Danehill) at a new rating of 138 (2lbs higher than last year's mark of 136) following his return from a 7-months spell to blitz his rivals by 5-lengths in last weekend's UK Gr1 Lockinge Stakes (8 furlongs) at Newbury. It rates Frankel as the best horse since the modern-day World Thoroughbred Rankings came into being when the US joined in 1996. Frankel will now rate 6lbs higher than the world's next highest-rated galloper: unbeaten Australian 5YO mare Black Caviar (Bel Esprit-Helsinge, by Desert Sun)  on 132, who is due to arrive in England next month for her 1st overseas test in the UK Gr1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. British Champions Series chief executive Rod Street enthused: "With Frankel back with a bang & Black Caviar to come, not to mention Camelot, Cirrus des Aigles & many others, never has there been so much to look forward to in British flat racing over the coming months. With Frankel we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness sheer equine brilliance & I hope that we can harness his rapidly growing profile, which helped generate a 40% increase to Newbury's crowd on Saturday, to widen the appeal of our fantastic sport."
