Artie Schiller Switching To Emirates Park
Emirates Park chief executive Trevor Lobb announced the stud has purchased "a 50% interest" in US Gr1-winning shuttler Artie Schiller (El Prado-Hidden Light, by Majestic Light) "the current Leading 2nd-Season Sire of the 2011-12 domestic racing season". Artie Schiller (who stands at WinStar Farm in Kentucky for US$10,000) finished runner-up in voting for the 2005 US Eclipse Award for Male Turf Champion & his dam Majestic Light was also a Gr1-winner. Artie Schiller retired in September 2006 with 10 wins from 22 starts for US$2,088,853 earnings; his victories included the US Gr1 Breeders' Cup Mile, Gr2 Jamaica Handicap (setting a Belmont Park turf course record for 9 furlongs), Gr2 National Museum Of Racing Hall Of Fame Stakes, Gr2 Maker's Mark Mile Stakes, Gr2 Bernard Baruch Handicap & Gr3 Hill Prince Stakes. Artie Schiller's 1st-crop to race in Australia includes recent Gr1 Rosehill Guineas winning 3YO Laser Hawk (also 3rd in the Gr1 Australian Derby), plus Gr3-winner Big Chill & stakes-winners Secret Liaison & Moving Money. And in North America (where his 1st-crop are 4YOs) Artie Schiller's star progeny include Gr2-winner Mr Commons, Gr3-winner Anne's Beauty, plus stakes-winners Blingo, Irish Art & Bear's Chill. Lobb noted: "We are delighted to have acquired 50% of Artie Schiller, who is a perfect fit for our 2012 stallion roster. It is very rare for a stallion doing so well in both hemispheres to become available & I had no hesitation in securing his services for Emirates Park. . . . When you also take into account the quality of mares we intend to send him, I fully expect Artie Schiller to cover his best-ever book this coming Australian breeding season." Artie Schiller will stand for $22,000.
