Moonee Valley Cuts Dato Tan & McEwen Prize-Money

Thursday, 28th July 2011

Moonee Valley Racing Club announced prize-money cuts for 2 of its feature races in September, following decisions by the Australian Pattern Committee at its annual meeting last week. Prize-money for the Gr2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) has been cut from $400,000 to $300,000 & the Gr3 McEwen Stakes (1000m) has been cut from $200,000 to $150,000. The MVRC noted it has “contributed $540,000 in additional funding to The Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes to support its campaign to have the race elevated to Gr1 status. This has come to nothing as the Australian Pattern Committee last week decided not to elevate the race from Gr2 to Gr1. As a result prize-money has been reduced in accordance with the race’s Gr2 grading”.
