Cecil Declares Frankel "Best I've Ever Seen"

Thursday, 28th July 2011

Immediately after last night’s Gr1 Sussex Stakes slaughter, trainer Sir Henry Cecil declared: “He’s the best I’ve ever seen. I’ve great respect for Blushing Groom, who was a great miler on his day & Shergar was a brilliant horse & I can’t go back to Tudor Minstrel & the days of match races, but he’s the best in my lifetime.” And Frankel’s owner-breeder Khalid Abdullah enthused: “I am lucky to have this horse & I think he's the best I've ever had, including Dancing Brave.” Jockey Tom Queally added: “He's absolutely amazing & is a freak. He's got that turbo . . . . He was amazing today & I'm just very fortunate to be playing a small part in it. . . . . He has a turn of foot & ticks all the boxes, so from a jockey's point of view, he is flawless - that performance speaks for itself.” Goodwood Clerk Of The Course Seamus Buckley commented: “Certainly in my time at Goodwood & probably in my lifetime in racing, that was the most outstanding performance I have seen. The reception alone was the best I’ve seen on a British racecourse.” Racing Post summed up: “Frankel gave a stunning display. . . . . He is surely one of the all-time greats & we should enjoy him while we can.”
