US Multiple Gr1-Winning Sire Awad Dies Aged 21

US 4-time Gr1-winning millionaire stallion Awad (Caveat-Dancer’s Candy, by Noble Dancer) died in his paddock at Old Friends in Kentucky (where he has been pensioned since 2006) aged 21, reported bloodhorse.com. On the track, Maryland-bred Awad recorded 14 wins (including the Gr1 Sword Dancer Invitational Handicap at Saratoga in a track record that still stands, Gr1 Arlington Million in a track record, Gr1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington, Gr1 Manhattan Handicap at Belmont Park & Gr2 Pan American Handicap at Gulfstream Park) & 21 placings (including runner-up in the Gr1 Sword Dancer Invitational Handicap at Saratoga) from 70 starts for US$3,270,131 earnings. Awad entered stud at Northview Stallion Station in Maryland in 1999.
