Singspiel Adds US Black-Type

Monday, 25th July 2011

Former shuttler & Gr1 Dubai World Cup winner Singspiel (In The Wings-Glorious Song, by Halo) added a US black-type success when Irish-bred 4YO mare Andina (Singspiel-Fragrant Oasis, by Rahy) gained the judge’s verdict in a 3-way photo-finish to the US$91,600 Listed Osunitas Stakes (8.5 furlongs on turf) for fillies & mares at Del Mar. Andina (ridden by Garrett Gomez for trainer Ben Cecil) scored by a head from fellow 4YO mare Wild Mia (Wildcat Heir-Love Mia, by El Sultan) with a further nose to another 4YO mare City To City (City Zip-Stormbow, by Storm Cat). Andina was a 11,000 guineas (A$17,000) yearling at the 2008 UK Tattersalls October Sale; overall she now has 4 wins & 8 placings (including last start’s Gr2 Royal Heroine Mile Stakes over 8 furlongs at Hollywood Park on July 4 & June’s Listed Redondo Beach Stakes over 8 furlongs at Hollywood Park, plus both 2010’s Gr2 Providencia Stakes over 9 furlongs at Santa Anita & Gr3 Senorita Stakes over 8 furlongs at Hollywood Park) from 15 starts for US$280,097 earnings.
