Monday, 25th July 2011

In the UK, former shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a Gr1 triumph when Lady Serena Rothschild’s Irish-bred 3YO colt Nathaniel (Galileo-Magnificent Style, by Silver Hawk) scored a 2.75-lengths victory over his older rivals in the £1 million (A$1.5m) Gr1 King George & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (12 furlongs) at Ascot. Nathaniel (ridden by William Buick for trainer John Gosden) defeated 4YO entires Workforce (King's Best-Soviet Moon, by Sadler's Wells) & Irish-bred St Nicholas Abbey (Montjeu-Leaping Water, by Sure Blade). Nathaniel took his record to 3 wins (also including June’s Gr2 King Edward VII Stakes over 12 furlongs at Royal Ascot) & 3 runners-up (including May’s Gr3 Chester Vase over 12.5 furlongs at Chester) from 6 starts for £707,758 (A$1.062m) earnings.
