Bruce Almighty Wins NZ Opunake Cup

In New Zealand, Chequers Stud sire Deputy Governor (Master Willie-Regent Miss, by Vice Regent) added a black-type success when 7YO gelding Bruce Almighty (Deputy Governor-Striking Angel, by Straight Strike) scored a 4.5-lengths victory in the NZ$65,000 Listed Opunake Cup (1400m) at Pukekura Raceway. Bruce Almighty (ridden by Robert Hannam for trainer Stuart Manning) defeated fellow 7YO gelding Bases Loaded (D'Cash-Gold Vain, by So Vain) & 5YO mare Sacha (Keeper-Viva Romance, by Machiavellian). Bruce Almighty now has 15 wins (also including 2010’s Gr2 Waikato Times Gold Cup over 2400m at Te Rapa, Gr3 Canterbury Gold Cup over 2000m at Riccarton Park, Gr3 Taranaki Cup over 2000m at New Plymouth & Listed AG Challenge Stakes over 1600m at Wanganui) & 11 placings (including 2010’s Listed Feilding Cup over 2100m at Awapuni & Listed Riverton Cup over 2147m, plus 2009's Listed Rangitikei Gold Cup over 1600m at Awapuni) from 75 starts for NZ$380,613 earnings.
