Monday, 25th July 2011

In Malaysia yesterday, Gr1 Golden Slipper-winning stallion Canny Lad (Bletchingly-Jesmond Lass, by Lunchtime) added a Gr1 triumph when Australian-bred 5YO gelding Blue Tosca (Canny Lad-Desert Bride, by Desert King) led in an Australian-bred trifecta with a half-length victory in the RM$400,000 (A$120,000) Gr1 Sultan Gold Vase (1100m) at Perak. Blue Tosca (ridden by Martin Wepner for trainer Stephen Cook) defeated fellow Australian-bred 6YO geldings Bintang Terang (Elusive Quality-Nasmah, by At Talaq) & Fighter Jet (Jetball-Watermead, by Charnwood Forest). Blue Tosca (a $5,000 yearling consigned by Widden Stud at the 2007 Inglis Classic Sale in Sydney & subsequently a $20,000 2YO at the 2007 Magic Millions Queensland Horses-In-Training Sale) took his record to 8 wins (also including last start’s dead-heat in the Gr1 Sprint Trophy over 1400m at Penang) & 9 placings from 23 starts.
