Top California Sire In Excess Pensioned

One of “the most successful stallions in the history of California breeding In Excess (Siberian Express-Kantado, by Saulingo) has been pensioned at age 24” reported bloodhorse.com. Irish-bred In Excess stood at Vessels Stallion Farm this year for US$12,5090. On the track, multiple Gr1-winner In Excess set a track record of 1min 58.33sec in the Gr1 Suburban Handicap (10 furlongs) at Belmont Park; he also won the Gr1 Woodward Stakes, Gr1 Metropolitan Handicap, Gr1 Whitney Handicap & Gr2 San Fernando Stakes to retire with 11 wins from 25 starts for US$1,736,733 earnings. In Excess has subsequently sired 62 stakes-winners (including Gr1-winners Musical Chimes, Romance Is Diane & Indian Charlie) & the earners of more than US$41 million; his son Indian Charlie “has developed into an important stallion, siring 58 stakes-winners”. As a broodmare sire, In Excess is represented by Canadian champion Bear Now & Gr1-winner Hot Dixie Chick.
