National TAB "Back On Agenda"

Thursday, 21st July 2011

A national tote “is back on the agenda in the wake of Tabcorp being awarded a 12-year wagering licence” in Victoria, reported The Herald-Sun. Racing Victoria chief executive Rob Hines “backed co-pooling of Super TAB (Victoria, Western Australia & Tasmania), NSW TAB & UniTAB (Queensland, South Australia & Northern Territory). Hines commented: “That's an objective I would like to pursue. Three pools in Australian racing is too many.” Victorian Thoroughbred Racehorse Owners Association chairman Jonathan Munz also backed a national tote, noting: “This is aided by Tabcorp now holding both the Victorian & NSW licences. The UNITAB pool needs to be incorporated & any competition objections would be completely misguided, as bigger pool sizes are in the interest of everyone, including punters.”
