Qld Horse Council Urges Calm Amid Hendra Outbreaks

Tuesday, 19th July 2011

Meanwhile the Queensland Horse Council “has called for calm as the industry deals with a growing number of animal deaths from Hendra virus” reported abc.net.au. QHC president Debbie Dekker said she “is relieved there have been no human cases so far this year” & emphasised: “Whenever Hendra comes around it's very scary, but we're urging people to calm down. It is a very hard disease for humans to catch. The highest priority is to get all the horses away from those areas where flying foxes are feeding at night. If you can't lock them up in a covered shelter or a stable, at least remove them from the paddock that has all the trees in it.”
