Sepoy & Helmet Heading To Europe

Monday, 18th July 2011

Dual Gr1-winning 2YO Helmet (Exceed And Excel-Accessories, by Singspiel) “has had his passport stamped & will be heading off to Europe alongside Gr1 Golden Slipper-winning stable-mate Sepoy” (Elusive Quality-Watchful, by Danehill) reported The Daily Telegraph. Trainer Peter Snowden confirmed Helmet (victorious in the Gr1 Sires' Produce & Gr1 Champagne Stakes during the Sydney Autumn carnival) “will transfer to the Godolphin racing operation next year to further his value as a potential stallion”. Snowden visited the Newmarket training facility in England recently & “while part of his trip was leisure, he was also there on a fact-finding mission to help identify the horses in his stable that would benefit from racing in Europe”. He noted: “It is not just about the good ones going over, it is finding the right horses that will fit into the system well. With Sepoy & Helmet, their ratings will be high & they have to compete at the elite level. Because they are southern hemisphere horses, they will be 6 months behind & probably won't be competitive at their rating until probably June or July next year, that's when they will be able to show their best. We are not quite sure when they will take them, we will know more after the Spring carnival.” Sepoy is “3 weeks away from having a trial & due to resume at Caulfield on August 13”. Helmet will kick off his campaign in Sydney by resuming in the Run To The Roses on August 23.
