Qld Breeders Support New QTIS Concepts
A meeting of the Thoroughbred Breeders Queensland Association yesterday declared “Queensland breeders are united in their fight to strengthen the popular QTIS initiative”. TBQA president Basil Nolan noted: “A massive 73% of all Queensland race horses are owned by breeders, so our opinion should really count for something.” Racing Queensland recently released a discussion paper “proposing numerous changes to QTIS to boost mid-week & provincial racing prize-money” & Nolan said: “Racing Queensland has made some worthwhile suggestions that we believe would benefit the Queensland Racing industry. We support the discussion paper & are unanimous in our resolve to retain QTIS.” Those present at yesterday’s meeting “agreed to a restructuring of QTIS & would particularly like to see the QTIS 600 scheme extended from 2YOs to include 3YOs”. A sub committee (consisting of Basil Nolan, Bob Frappell, Neville Stewart & Steve Morley) was formed to “work together to formulate a paper” based on yesterday’s discussions “to present to Queensland Racing in the next week”.
