Monday, 18th July 2011

Former shuttler Giant's Causeway (Storm Cat-Mariah's Storm, by Rahy) added a US graded-stakes success when daughter Excited (Giant's Causeway-Path Of Thunder, by Thunder Gulch) scored a half-length victory in the US$150,00 Gr3 Virginia Oaks (9 furlongs on turf) for 3YO fillies at Colonial Downs. Excited (ridden by John Velazquez for trainer Todd Pletcher) defeated Summer Savory (Horse Chestnut-Savory, by Skywalker) & Wyomia (Vindication-Beyond The Sun, by Kingmambo). Excited (whose dam is a full-sister to multiple Gr1-winner Spain) took her record to 3 wins (also including May’s Listed Hilltop Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Pimlico) & 5 placings (including June’s Gr3 Regret Stakes over 9 furlongs at Churchill Downs, March's Gr3 Herecomesthebride Stakes over 9 furlongs at Gulfstream Park & January's Listed Sweetest Chant Stakes over 8 furlongs at Arlington Park, plus 2010's Listed Good Mood Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Belmont Park) from 10 starts for US$244,796 earnings.
