Racing NSW-ATC Deal On Warwick Farm Training Centre

Thursday, 14th July 2011

Racing NSW & the Australian Turf Club “have reached an agreement on establishing an industry training facility at Warwick Farm & will be asking the state government for $15 million to fund the project” reported The Daily Telegraph. The “governing body & metropolitan race club met yesterday to discuss the future of the centre, which will provide guidance & training for all professions in the industry, ranging from apprentice jockeys to budding trainers”. Racing NSW chief executive Peter V'Landys confirmed: “Our meeting was very constructive & we now have a plan to move forward. The next step will be to seek funds from the Government, between $10-15 million, and we are hopeful that we will know the success of the funding by the end of the year.” The old tote building at Warwick Farm “will be transformed into a new 2-storey facility that will house offices, training rooms & accommodation”. The initiative is a joint venture with TAFE “which currently provides training for industry participants from its Richmond base”.
