Kentucky Yearlings: US$300k Tapit Filly

Thursday, 14th July 2011

David Fiske (racing manager for Winchell Thoroughbreds) paid US$300,000 for a filly by Gainesway stallion Tapit (out of winning 9YO Vicar mare Easily) consigned by Gainesway as agent. Fiske told thoroughbredtimes.com: “This is the only one we came to the sale to bid on. Given who Tapit is, we think this one is worth the money; it’s about what we expected to spend. We’re always looking for quality Tapits; no one wants a good Tapit more than we do.” Fiske (as agent for the Ron & Joan Winchell) acquired Tapit for US$625,000 at the 2002 Keeneland September Yearling Sale & the Pulpit horse went on to win 3 of his initial 4 starts (including the Gr3 Laurel Futurity as a 2YO & Gr1 Wood Memorial Stakes as a 3YO). Fiske added the Winchells are “significantly involved” in Tapit’s stallion career at Gainesway, where he stands for US$75,000 & currently leads the US general sire list. Gainesway director of sales Michael Hernon added: “We expect Tapit to continue to solidify his position as one of the top young sires.”
