Mugharreb Youngster On Fire

Tuesday, 12th July 2011

Last weekend’s Macau victory (reported here yesterday) by 3YO gelding Northern Champion (Mugharreb-Ascot Prancer, by Ascot Knight) over 1200m took his record to 4 wins & 2 runners-up from just 6 starts, putting the spotlight firmly on his SA-based Willowgrove Stud sire Mugharreb (Gone West-Marling, by Lomond). Dual stakes-performed Mugharreb is out of 4-time Gr1-winner Marling, herself a daughter of 4-time Gr1-winner Marwell. In addition to Northern Champion’s Macau performances, Mugharreb is also the sire of 2 Singapore winners from just 3 starters, including Gr3-placed 6-time winner Black Ice-Ilparan. Mugharreb, whose progeny’s average winning distance is 1207m, stands for $2,200 in 2011.
