Monday, 11th July 2011

Gr1-winning freshman shuttler & US 2007 Gr1 Kentucky Derby runner-up Hard Spun (Danzig-Turkish Tryst, by Turkoman) recorded his 1st stakes-winner when US-bred 2YO colt Red Duke (Hard Spun-Saudia, by Gone West) scored by a neck in the £60,000 (A$90,000) UK Gr2 Superlative Stakes (7 furlongs) for 2YOs at Newmarket. Red Duke (ridden by Kieren Fallon for trainer John Quinn) defeated Irish-bred fellow colts Chandlery (Choisir-Masai Queen, by Mujadil) & Silverheels (Verglas-Vasilia, by Dansili). Red Duke was originally a US$15,000 yearling at the 2010 Keeneland September Sale & subsequently a £140,000 (A$210,000) 2YO at this year’s Doncaster Bloodstock April Breeze-Up Sale. Overall he now has 2 wins & a placing from 3 starts for £37,938 (A$57,000) earnings.
