Injured US Gr1-Winner Dublin Retired To Stud
US Gr1-winning & Gr1-placed 4YO entire Dublin (Afleet Alex-Classy Mirage, by Storm Bird) suffered a “fractured sesamoid in his right front leg” when finishing unplaced at Churchill Downs last weekend (in his keenly-anticipated comeback after 14 months away from the track) & has been retired, reported US Daily Racing Form. At his previous start, Dublin (a US$525,000 yearling at the 2008 Keeneland September Sale) finished 5th in 2010’s Gr1 Preakness Stakes. Trainer D. Wayne Lukas commented: “We really were expecting he’d have a hell of a Summer. He had 5 or 6 bullet works & we were getting him ready for Saratoga & the Fall.” Stud plans have not been discussed, but Lukas noted: “He’s got a beautiful pedigree & he’s one of the best-looking horses I ever trained. He’ll have a great chance to be a sire.” Dublin retires with 2 wins (including 2009’s Gr1 Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes over 7 furlongs at Saratoga) & 3 placings (including 2010’s Gr1 Arkansas Derby over 9 furlongs at Oaklawn Park) from 11 startrs for US$438,623 earnings.
