Hendra Won't Halt Racing Industry

Friday, 8th July 2011

Meanwhile Racing NSW chief executive Peter V’landys said there was “no reason to panic” despite the rising number of horses infected. He told The Daily Telegraph: “Equine influenza is a rampantly contagious disease & totally different to the Hendra virus. With Hendra, there is no evidence of the virus being passed from one horse to another, so that is why there is no need to shut down racing here like we were forced to do with EI. But when a horse is found to have the virus, that property is quarantined more to protect humans who have come into contact with that horse.”
