Cape Cross Adds UK Gr2

Friday, 8th July 2011

Former shuttler Cape Cross (Green Desert-Park Appeal, by Ahonoora) added a UK group success overnight when 6YO mare Crystal Capella (Cape Cross-Crystal Star, by Mark Of Esteem) came from the tail of the field to blitz her rivals by 8-lengths in the £80,000 (A$120,000) Gr2 Princess Of Wales’s Stakes (12 furlongs) at Newmarket. Crystal Capella (ridden by Ryan Moore for trainer Sir Michael Stoute) defeated 5YO entire Redwood (High Chaparral-Arum Lily, by Woodman) & front-running 3YO colt Buthelezi (Dynaformer-Ntombi, by Quiet American). Crystal Capella took her record to 8 wins (also including 2010’s Gr2 Pride Stakes over 12 furlongs at Newmarket, plus 2009's Gr3 Middleton Stakes over 10.5 furlongs at York, as well as 2008's Gr2 Pride Stakes over 12 furlongs at Newmarket, Gr3 Princess Royal Stakes over 12 furlongs at Ascot & Listed Alice Keppel Stakes over 10 furlongs at Goodwood) & 3 runners-up (including 2009's Gr2 Pride Stakes over 12 furlongs at Newmarket) from 14 starts for £289,154 (A$434,000) earnings.
