Newmarket Course "Won't Worry Star Witness"
Australian trainer Danny O'Brien “is confident the testing nature of England's Newmarket course will favour Star Witness in the UK Gr1 July Cup (6 furlongs) on Saturday” reported The Herald-Sun. O’Brien noted: “It's proven the undoing of Australian horses in the past. Horses which won at Royal Ascot, such as Choisir, Takeover Target & Scenic Blast, haven't been able to replicate their success at Newmarket. But I think the undulations & the testing nature suit Star Witness. He really has enjoyed being here & his work on Tuesday was good. He's in great order.” During last month’s Royal Ascot carnival, Australia’s dual Gr1-winning 3YO colt Star Witness (Starcraft-Leone Chiara, by Lion Hunter) finished 2nd in the Gr1 King's Stand Stakes (5 furlongs) & then 3rd in the Gr1 Golden Jubilee Stakes (6 furlongs), but O’Brien commented: “In the King's Stand he got back too far. Then last start he was a victim of circumstances as Steve (Australian jockey Steven Arnold) thought the grandstand side was getting away from him & needed to keep up. In the finish he was left a bit of a sitting shot.” This weekend O'Brien said he expected Star Witness “to drift back in the early stages. I would think we would try & have him as comfortable for as long as possible & then let him go in the final stages.”
