Officials "Confident" To Fix Aust "Quarantine Problem"

Wednesday, 6th July 2011

Meanwhile Racing Victoria’s Melbourne Cup international ambassador Leigh Jordon (in Europe to recruit runners for the Melbourne Spring Carnival) “said he was confident a solution could be found to the quarantine issues preventing connections of So You Think lining up a possible bid for a third Cox Plate & that risk undermining the international challenge for the Cup itself,” reported racingpost.com. Dialogue was “continuing with officials from the Australian Government to try to overcome objections the Australian Quarantine & Inspection Service have to the use of the facilities at Ballydoyle in Ireland & Side Hill Stud in Newmarket”. Jordon “is hoping the issues will be resolved this week” & confirmed: "They're working through the issues & I'm confident we'll actually get a solution.” Both Ballydoyle & Side Hill have been used previously as quarantine bases for runners heading to Australia & last year's Melbourne Cup winner Americain “spent his time in Newmarket before running at Flemington”. With entries for the Gr1 Cox Plate & Gr1 Caulfield Cup closing on August 1 & the Gr1 Melbourne Cup on September 1, “a number of trainers are monitoring developments”.
