Spechenka Wins Caloundra Cup

Monday, 4th July 2011

On the Australian track, Queensland-based Scenic View Lodge stallion Danachenka (Danehill-Vashenka, by Nashwan) added a black-type success when 5YO gelding Spechenka (Danachenka-Special Class, by Conquistarose) came from the tail of the field to gain the judge’s decision in a 3-way photo-finish to the $200,000 Listed Caloundra Cup (2400m) at the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Spechenka (ridden by Ryan Wiggins for trainer Ben Aherns) scored by a short-neck from front-running & equal top-weighted fellow 5YO gelding Gold In Dubai (Desert Sun-Rory's Song, by Rory's Jester) with a further head to equal top-weighted & favoured 7YO gelding Tinseltown (Pentire-Tinsel, by Father Christmas). Spechenka took his record to 11 wins (also including 2010’s Gr3 Summer Cup over 2400m at Randwick) & 3 runners-up from 28 starts for $372,075 earnings.
