Aust-Bred Fighting Warrior Wins South Africa Gr1 Horseshoe

Monday, 4th July 2011

Completing an extraordinary Gr1 trifecta for Australian-bred gallopers in South Africa, Yarraman Park stallion Magic Albert (Zeditave-Sally Lou, by Salieri) added a juvenile Gr1 triumph when Australian-bred gelding Fighting Warrior (Magic Albert-Dark Blue, by Wallenda) flashed home to snatch victory by a head (& led in an Australian-bred quinella) in the R500,000 (A$65,000) Gr1 Golden Horseshoe (1400m) for 2YO colts & geldings at Greyville. Fighting Warrior (ridden by Stuart Randolph for trainer Ivan Moore) defeated Australian-bred colt Mushreq (Flying Spur-Alharir, by Jeune) & fellow colt Sidestep (Mogok-Glamorous Gal, by Sportsworld). Fighting Warrior (a $15,000 weanling consigned by Attunga Stud as agent at the 2009 Magic Millions National Sale & subsequently a $29,000 yearling consigned by Oakwood Farm as agent at the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale) took his record to 2 wins & 2 placings (including runner-up in June’s Gatecrasher Stakes over 1450m at Clairwood) from 6 starts for R387,217 (A$50,000) earnings.
