Light Rail May Solve Randwick Transport Issue

Friday, 1st July 2011

The NSW Government's decision “to conduct a feasibility study on the reintroduction of a light rail in Sydney could solve a major transport issue at Royal Randwick” noted The Daily Telegraph. The newspaper noted: “Access in & out of Randwick racecourse can be a real headache, particularly if there are other sport or entertainment events at the nearby Moore Park precinct. But Racing Confidential understands the proposed light rail route sweeps by Randwick racecourse, the nearby university, then past Fox Studios, the Sydney Cricket Ground & Sydney Football Stadium & back towards the CBD. A light rail option could boost racetrack attendances, making it much easier for punters to attend Randwick race meetings. Flemington copes with crowds of 100,000 plus during Melbourne Cup Week because the train drops racegoers off at the entrance to the racecourse.”
