Racing NSW Seeks $5m For Apprentice School

Tuesday, 28th June 2011

Racing NSW “is set to lobby the State Government for $5 million in funding to establish a much-needed academy-style apprentice school at Warwick Farm” reported The Daily Telegraph. Racing NSW chief executive Peter V'landys “indicated he would be meeting Australian Turf Club officials in coming weeks to discuss the acquisition of a building at the western Sydney racetrack that will be transformed to serve as a home of the Australian Racing & Equine Academy”. He noted after the ATC meeting “the next process will be to seek funding from the government to help. The plan is that the academy will be the base of education & training for our apprentices long-term with accommodation available for training camps & anything needed with helping our young riders on & off the track. The project will cost around $5 million, a lot will depend on the funding, but we are hoping it could be up-and-running in the next 12 months.”
