NZ Star Jimmy Choux Aimed At Aust Gr1 Cox Plate

Tuesday, 21st June 2011

In New Zealand, Hastings trainer John Bary confirmed triple Gr1-winning 3YO colt Jimmy Choux (Thorn Park-Cierzo, by Centaine) will “target” Australia’s $3 million Gr1 W.S.Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley in October, after beginning his 2011 Spring campaign with 2 homeland starts in the NZ$200,000 Gr1 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes (1400m) at Hastings on August 27 & NZ$250,000 Gr1 Spring Classic (2040m) at Hastings on October 1, reported The Waikato Times. Bary said Jimmy Choux has been “back in work for the past 2 weeks” & enthused: “He spelled fantastically. He's actually got dapples, he's so well. He's nice & fat & chubby at the moment, but he hasn't got top-heavy, which is great.” Jimmy Choux currently boasts 10 wins (including both March’s Gr1 Rosehill Guineas over 2000m & Gr1 New Zealand Derby over 2400m at Ellerslie, plus February's Gr3 Waikato Guineas over 2000m at Te Rapa & January's Gr3 Wellington Stakes over 1600m at Trentham, as well as 2010's Gr1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas over 1600m at Riccarton Park, Gr2 NZB Insurance Hawke's Bay Guineas over 1400m at Hastings, Gr2 Westbury Stud Wakefield Challenge Stakes over 1200m at Trentham & Gr2 Great Northern Guineas over 1600m at Ellerslie) & 5 placings (including 2010's Gr1 Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes over 1400m at Awapuni, Gr1 Auckland Diamond Stakes over 1200m at Ellerslie & Listed Wanganui Guineas over 1340m, plus 2009's Listed Weetwood Grange Stakes over 1100m at Te Rapa) from 18 starts for over A$2 million earnings.
