Shootoff Wins Gr1 Queensland Derby

NZ Dormello Stud stallion Duelled (Redoute's Choice-Leica Pretender, by Sir Tristram) added a Gr1 triumph when favoured gelding Shootoff (Duelled-Athenri, by Zabeel) prevailed in a 3-way photo-finish to the$500,000 Gr1 Queensland Derby (2400m) for 3YOs at Eagle Farm. Shootoff (ridden by Michael Rodd for trainer Graeme Rogerson) scored by a long-head from 3YO filly Shez Sinsational (Ekraar-Original Sin, by Shinko King) with a further long-head to fellow filly Heidilicious (Zabeel-Kerkira, by Danehill). Shootoff (a NZ$35,000 2YO consigned by Dormello Stud at the 2009 NZB Ready-To-Run Sale) now has 4 wins (also including May’s Lord Mayor's Cup over 1900m at Canterbury Park & April’s Gr3 Frank Packer Plate over 2000m at Randwick) & 2 placings (in April’s Gr2 Tulloch Stakes over 2000m at Rosehill & 2010's Gr1 Inglis Spring Champion Stakes over 2000m at Randwick) from 17 starts for $555,000 earnings.
