$150m Moonee Valley Plan For World's Best Night Racing

Moonee Valley Racing Club confirmed the $150 million redevelopment (including reconfigured track & new 4-tier grandstand) “to provide racegoers & industry participants with a spectacular venue primarily for night racing” is planned to begin “immediately after the 2016 Cox Plate & re-open the following August”. The MVRC “would conduct its meetings at other Victorian race tracks during the approximate 10 months of building the new track”. MVRC chairman Bob Scarborough said the purpose-built venue would “deliver up to 40 meetings a year & hold crowds of 40,000 comfortably. . . . Our focus is on building a world-class night racing venue. Most of our meetings would be on Friday nights & the racing product would be exported to international markets through television & other electronic sources.”
