STC Board "Disappointed" At Merger Rejection

Wednesday, 13th October 2010

Meanwhile Sydney Turf Club chairman Bill Picken said while he "respects all opinions", he was disappointed the resolution supporting the merger (which had been recommended by the STC Board) had been rejected by the members who attended Monday evening's meeting. Picken commented: "The STC Board worked diligently with the AJC Board to ensure the proposed merger was in the best interests of not only Sydney Turf Club & Australian Jockey Club, but the racing industry as a whole." And STC chief executive Michael Kenny told Sky Sports Radio yesterday STC Board members who attended Monday's meeting (2 were overseas) held a meeting after the vote, but he expected the Board would now be unable to go to NSW Racing Minister Kevin Greene & recommend a merger, even though the Board itself supported it. Greene yesterday confirmed he expected the clubs to report to him "by the end of the week on their proposed course of action".
