US Maryland Yearlings Day-1: US$250k After Market Colt
In the US auction ring, Jay Em Ess Stable (operated by California-based Mace Siegel & daughter Samantha) paid top price of US$250,000 for a colt from the 1st-crop of multiple Gr1-winning Storm Cat stallion & Lane's End-based sire After Market (out of 12-year-old Smart Strike mare Christmas Strike) during the opening session at the 2-day Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Eastern Fall Yearling Sale at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium in Maryland. The Pennsylvania-bred colt (consigned by breeder Rick Abbott's Charlton sales agency) is a half-brother to stakes-winner Double Down Vinman (as well as stakes-placed winners No Passing Zone & Holy Christmas) & his dam Christmas Strike is a half-sister to both Gr1-winner Christmas Kid & stakes-winner Elusive Gift. Samantha Siegel told bloodhorse.com: "He was our favourite of the sale. He kind of stuck out up here. If he had gone to Keeneland (for last month's September yearling sale) he probably would have gotten lost in the crowd. He's a correct horse & he's big & strong & well-balanced. He also handled himself well. We really liked him. There was no hemming & hawing about him."
