Workforce Arc Win Rated Equal To UK Derby Blitz

Wednesday, 6th October 2010

In Europe, the victory by Prince Khalid Abdulla's Juddmonte Farms home-bred 3YO colt & this season's English Derby winner Workforce (King's Best-Soviet Moon, by Sadler's Wells) in defeating older rivals to win Sunday's French Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (2400m) at Longchamp was "a performance at least the equivalent of his record-breaking win in the Derby (where he blitzed his rivals by 7-lengths & smashed the course record for 12 furlongs at Epsom Downs) according to the British Horseracing Authority's head of handicapping Phil Smith," reported racingpost.com. Although the international handicappers "have yet to decide on a definite rating" for Workforce's Arc victory, Smith said it is "guaranteed to be on a par with the official rating of 128 he was allotted for his Epsom win", noting: "After the Derby we had him on 128, but the international handicappers dropped him back to 126 after. After Sunday, through Behkabad, it looks as if he will be 128-129. He is guaranteed to go back to his Derby form, it is just whether it is 1lb higher; I can see arguments for & against it."
