Apache Cat & Douro Valley Trackwork In HK

Thursday, 11th December 2008

Meanwhile in HK yesterday morning, Australian gallopers Apache Cat (entered for the Gr1 HK International Sprint over 1200m) & Douro Valley (Gr1 HK Vase over 2400m) continued final preparations at Sha Tin for Sunday's International Races. Trainer Greg Eurell's 6-time Gr1-winning 6YO gelding Apache Cat (Lion Cavern-Tennessee Blaze, by Whiskey Road) had a "3/4 spin" on the course proper with regular track rider Danielle Ellett reporting he felt "sensational" after an 800m work-out in which he zipped home the last 400m in 22.0sec despite appearing to be unextended. Ellett enthused: "He really does feel great. He's very laid-back, very relaxed & takes everything in his stride. It doesn't matter to him whether he's going left-handed or right-handed & the change of environment hasn't bothered him." Eurell added: "I'm very pleased with him. He's a horse who enjoys his work, did it pretty comfortably this morning & everything has gone as well as we could hope for." Fellow Australian trainer Danny O'Brien's recent Gr1 Yalumba Stakes-winning 7YO gelding Douro Valley (Encosta de Lago-Opaque, by Lord Seymour) had "an easy morning's stretch" on the all-weather track & stable foreman Paul Koumis commented: "He's super, really good."
