UK Gr1 Star Kingsgate Native Retired To Stud

Tuesday, 30th September 2008

In the UK, dual Gr1-winning sprinter & Irish-bred 3YO colt Kingsgate Native (Mujadil-Native Force, by Indian Ridge) "has been retired from racing & will take up stallion duties at Cheveley Park Stud next season," reported the-racehorse.com. Kingsgate Native defeated 16 older rivals to win the 2007 UK Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes (5 furlongs) at York as a juvenile (he also finished 3rd in this year's renewal in late August); & this year he won the UK Gr1 Golden Jubilee Stakes (6 furlongs) at Royal Ascot. Kingsgate Native (from the family of Gr1 1000 Guineas winner Las Meninas) was originally a €28,000 (A$47,600) purchase at the 2005 Goffs November foal sale & then a 20,000 guineas (A$44,000) yearling at Doncaster Bloodstock's 2006 St Leger sale. Last season as a 2YO, Kingsgate Native started 4 times: he finished 2nd in the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes (5 furlongs) at Royal Ascot on debut; 2nd in the Gr3 Molecomb Stakes (5 furlongs) at Glorious Goodwood; he then entered the history books with a famous victory over older horses in the Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes (only the 5th 2YO ever to take on older horses & win the Nunthorpe); & finished the season with a 2nd against older horses in France's Gr1 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp (1000m).
